If you haven’t guessed it, we can’t get enough of good garage and surf music either.
The label Born Bad did a series back in 1986 of some great music. One of the tracks I’d been trying to find and had eluded me was the Buster’s “Bust Out” which is featured on VOL 3.
This series is great whether you are a hard-core collector of surf/garage and rockabilly or casual. Not unlike the Nuggets series, Born Bad has done a great job archiving a selection of tracks that are familiar, and others tracks that are somewhat more obscure.
You’ve got some Link Wray, Sonics, and Wanda Jackson …wait, this sounds like an album by the Cramps? Yes, the common theme here is that this album is “Songs the Cramps Taught us” but the band disavowed any association.
It’s a great series and I love having that music collected together. The liner notes and photos in the gatefold sleeves are equally entertaining and lovingly put together.
